These GAP Step 2 fresh turkeys are slow- grown in the Sierra Nevada Foothills with individual care by Diestel Family Farms. Fed a wholesome low-fat 100% vegetarian diet of quality grains and soybeans. No antibiotics or hormones, Ever. Preparation Instructions: Allow one pound of turkey per person. Cooking time is approximately 12-15 minutes per pound. A whole turkey is safe cooked to a minimum internal temperature of 165 F (73.9 C) throughout the bird as measured with a food thermometer. Check the internal temperature in the innermost part of the thigh and wing and the thickest part of the breast. Freshness: In order to preserve freshness, temperatures are maintained slightly above 26 degrees. While you may find the bird has a thin crust on the surface, the inside is not frozen. The USDA defines fresh poultry as having a core temperature no lower than 26 degrees. At this temperature the birds are in state that greatly limits any microbiological growth.
